Forest Shuffle: Dartmoor is a standalone game in the Forest Shuffle series, introducing a new habitat filled with new species, abilities, and scoring opportunities.
As in the original game, players compete to create the most valuable ecosystem by placing trees and shrubs, then attracting plants and animals to build a balanced habitat.
The main addition is the introduction of Terrain cards, which are played horizontally and provide new types of habitats and feeding grounds. Unlike trees and shrubs, species can only be placed above or below Terrain cards, making placement decisions even more important.
Like its predecessor, each of the 180 cards can also be played face down to create a bog when allowed by the rules. Caves are now drafted at the start of the game, providing asymmetrical starting conditions, and the number of tree symbols has been reduced from eight to six to make earning bonuses easier.
The core gameplay remains unchanged. On each turn, players either draw cards or play cards by paying their cost, with the goal of building the highest-scoring habitat by the end of the game.
