Medieval Europe was not a kind place for the sick and injured. Trained physicians were a rare privilege reserved for the wealthy and powerful, so ordinary people had to rely on traveling barber-surgeons — men without formal schooling, but who knew the healing power of herbs, could tend a wound, and more than one of whom secretly dreamed of one day earning the knowledge and standing of a true Medicus.
In Medico, you take on the role of just such an ambitious barber. Your path toward the coveted title winds through dozens of cities, monasteries, and marketplaces, where you'll need skill, cunning, and a sharp strategic mind to come out ahead.
Along your travels, you'll gather rare medicinal ingredients out in the wild and sell them for profit in the city markets. The Church may entrust you with important letters to deliver — and fulfilling these tasks builds your standing among the clergy. Monastic libraries hold ancient recipes and healing methods worth studying, while in the great cities you can acquire medical instruments, send your children to apprentice at the bathhouse, or attempt to heal the city lord himself and secure his valuable patronage. The luckiest travelers may even cross paths with the legendary Medicus in person and glean invaluable knowledge from him.
Stefan Feld's signature design touch is evident in every corner of Medico — interlocking mechanisms, multiple parallel paths to victory, and constant tension between short-term gain and long-term strategic advantage make this a rewarding challenge for experienced board game enthusiasts who favor titles with real strategic depth.
By the end of the game, it will be clear which of you has truly earned the proud title of Medicus.
