In the game Tiny Epic Galaxies: Beyond the Black, players have access to four new ships that they can upgrade their original ships to. To do this, they will have to hire specialized pilots. There are many pilots available for hire, each with a unique special ability. Pilots also specialize in the types of ships they are trained to use. Hiring the right pilot for a given ship reduces the cost of the pilot. The more ships a pilot controls, the weaker their special ability. Pilots are hired by spending unused dice that correspond to four different types of ships, and during the game, they have a value in victory points. Pilots are shuffled into the deck and spread out like planets.

In addition, the game Tiny Epic Galaxies: Beyond the Black introduces the possibility of exploration according to the press-your-luck principle for players. Players can venture beyond planets into deep space, where they may encounter dwarf planets worth victory points, or rare materials from which resources are obtained... or they may encounter space threats such as solar storms, black holes, and even supernovae. Either way, exploring deep space provides players with exploration badges. These badges are totaled at the end of the game and players are rewarded with bonus victory points based on who has the most of a certain type. There are four types of badges that can be collected.
